Marc Loustau, a Catholics & Cultures fellow at the College of the Holy Cross, will present his ethnographic fieldwork with Charismatic Renewal participants at the Csíksomlyó Roman Catholic shrine in the Transylvania region of Romania, to highlight the existential context of Charismatic rituals and storytelling. Loustau, who holds a Th.D. from Harvard Divinity School, is a religious studies scholar whose research has focused on the context of personal, social and economic change in Eastern Europe. He completed three years of ethnographic fieldwork at the Csíksomlyó Roman Catholic pilgrimage site and shrine to the Virgin Mary. At Holy Cross, Loustau will teach a course on Contemporary Global Catholicism in the Religious Studies Department, he will contribute to the Catholics & Cultures website, and he will edit an issue of the Journal for Global Catholicism.
Lunch will be provided, but space is limited. Holy Cross community members who wish to attend should RSVP by February 1.
